Catching up…

Hi! It’s been a while.

The last time I posted I had just started my fourth year of podiatry school. I had no idea what was coming! This year has been a tough one to be a medical student. The first couple months of quarantine I was home just like everyone else in the world. However, I have been back to my normal schedule since June.

Back in the hospital!

So far, I have completed two and a half externships, and boy does it feel good to be back seeing patients and learning new things!

So happy to be back in Ohio with Andrew, after away rotations!

February Favorites

  • On Monday I start fourth year! Where the heck is the time going?! The next two months I will be on a nephrology rotation, so I will be spending my Sunday reviewing my kidney anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
  • Since it has been really cold here in Cleveland, going to antique shops has been my favorite weekend pastime. Why is antique furniture so much cooler than the new stuff?
  • For my birthday, I asked for a few pairs of Veja sneakers. I have pretty much been obsessed since Meghan Markle wore them about a year ago. I purchased this pair and this pair. I really like them both, but they are very different. I think I’ll write a full blog post detailing the differences and which one I like more.
  • I have been working on a research project at school for almost a year and we just found out that it is going to be published in an international medical journal!
  • Andrew and I just watched Love is Blind… this show is INSANE! I mean, it is so over-the-top crazy that we got hooked. People were professing their love for each other after three days, and get engaged without ever seeing each other! I don’t think any of these couples will last, but it sure was fun to watch all the drama.
  • I have been working on my charcuterie boards lately. What do ya think?

Boards and 4th of July

Last Wednesday, I took my first Board exam! I find out my score in a few weeks.

Most people are dreading the wait, but I am pretty happy not to have to think about it for a while!

A few of my friends and I drove down to Columbus and took the test, then our husbands/ boyfriends met us for some Fourth of July Festivities.

If you know me, you know that I am the most patriotic person EVER. I always cry when I hear the national anthem, and I am basically just obsessed with America. So, the fourth is one of my favorite holidays!

We were so excited to be done with that dang test!

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend!

Weekend Adventures

I feel like summer has finally arrived in Ohio! So we had some fun this weekend.

Friday night we went to the Indians game, and we won. Woohoo!

On Saturday I went out to dinner for a girls’ night with my classmates.

Sunday we did a (much needed) deep clean of the the apartment. I have never been an organized person by nature, and neither is Andrew, so the house gets messy really fast. It feels so refreshing, so hopefully it lasts!

One of those days…

Monday started off with a bang! Literally. I blew a tire on the interstate 🤦🏼‍♀️

So yesterday and today have been spent ordering tires, driving around on a “donut” spare (which had a max speed of 50 mph), and wasting precious study time!

Not ideal when boards are a month away.

I also ordered by new tires from Costco. So, while I was waiting, I probably consumed 9847589047562398742 calories.

Here’s to tomorrow, and getting S$%* DONE!

-Hannah

PS- Get your tires checked regularly.

Friday Favorites

  1. This week I had a little “Treat Yo Self” moment and bought some fresh flowers. They look so cute in our little apartment, I wish they would last forever.
  2. Still reading this book… it is so scary. I don’t think I will ever go on a cruise after reading it.
  3. Tomorrow I am going to a bridal shower brunch, I am hoping that it will be warm enough to wear this dress that I bought a couple of weeks ago.
  4. Eight nine days until boards! I know it is going to fly by!!
  5. Do I order these? Or do I save myself from the temptation? The Reeses’ egg is just the best candy…

Spring Break

This Spring Break we went to Puerto Rico for a little delayed honeymoon! We had such a wonderful time seeing all the colorful buildings of San Juan and having a few too many mojitos.

I mean how amazing are these colors?!

We stayed at La Concha, which had the most beautiful beach and pool!

Spring Break is a great opportunity to catch up on sleep, rest, and to return to school recharged. But, if I am being honest, getting up for school this morning was tough!

Pray for me getting through this week!

Post exam week vibes…

After finishing my radiology exam today I am officially on spring break! Woohoo! I am so excited to relax all weekend, and then, on Monday we are headed to Puerto Rico!

  1. I am so excited to watch this movie. I went down the Theranos rabbit hole a couple months ago, the story is so insane!
  2. I may have to swing by the mall to pick up this hat for our trip, I can’t wait for some sunshine. (It is currently snowing in Ohio)
  3. This book has been sitting on my nightstand for months… hopefully I finish it this week.
  4. Can’t wait to catch up on my favorite podcast.
  5. Dying to try this recipe.

Hope you have a relaxing and fun weekend!

Exam Day

Exam days are long, stressful, and busy.

This is typically what I do on exam days as a second year podiatric medical student.

Today I have an exam in Intro to Surgery and tomorrow I have a Pediatric Medicine exam.

5:00 AM: My alarm goes off… I hit the snooze as fast as possible.

5:20 AM: Okay, I’m up and I make my first cup of coffee for the day.

5:25 AM: I’m at my desk. I read through all the notes I Have for the exam today.

6:45 AM: I wake up Andrew, and return to studying.

7:45 AM: I start getting dressed and ready for the day!

8:00 AM: Ready to go!

8:45 AM: I arrive at school and meet up with some of my classmates and we review material. We quiz each other and go over anything we are still confused about.

11:00 AM: Lunchtime! I get some vegan enchiladas from the cafeteria at school. My classmates and I continue to quiz each other until the exam.

1:00 PM: Exam Time!

1:50 PM: Phew, that was a tough one. I hang around the cafeteria and discuss some of the questions with my friends.

2:10 PM: I start reviewing for the exam tomorrow.

3:45 PM: I can’t focus anymore, I leave school and sit in traffic for 45 minutes on my way home.

4:30 PM: I’m home! I plop myself on the couch and write this post, watch some youtube, and drink some water. (I really need to work on drinking water throughout the day!)

4:50 PM: I motivate and start studying for my pod med exam. This exam covers sooooo many antibiotics.

6:00 PM: Andrew gets home and we run to the gas station for dinner 😬. We pick up some sandwiches and watch two episodes of The Office while we eat.

7:20 PM: Alright, back to studying…

10:00 PM: Time to get ready for bed! Woohoo survived the day!

10:20 PM: Set my alarm for 5AM and go to sleep.
